MEN'S FELLOWSHIP BREAKFAST
All men, from the youngest to the eldest, are invited to attend an informal breakfast at 8:00am the third Saturday of each month (except December). There is a hearty breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, apples, grits and biscuits served with orange juice and coffee. This is followed by a time of singing, prayer and testimony or devotion. The breakfast ends promptly at 9:00am so you can continue with other activities of your day.
BIBLE STUDIES
Various Bible Studies are conducted throughout the year for men and women. The goal of these studies is to help us grow in our own knowledge of the scripture and how to practically apply it to our lives. Emmaus Bible College courses are also available to help you get the most out of personal study.
LADIES MISSIONARY GROUP
The Ladies Missionary Group, for ladies of all ages, meets at the Chapel the third Wednesday of each month, September through May, at 10:00 a.m. There is a time of singing, devotion from God’s Word, and prayer. Before prayer, we read letters from missionaries, so we can keep abreast of the work and needs in certain areas around the world. The CMML Missionary Handbook is a vital tool in our prayer and work as it allows us to see who we are praying for and guides our prayer requests. When possible, we have a guest missionary speaker and a luncheon following in the Activity Building, allowing more time to fellowship and learn of the work. Other times, we have work projects which vary from month to month. Some projects for third world countries have been health care kits, wall hangings and calendars, including scripture in the native language.
LADIES MORNING PRAYER MINISTRY
Ladies meet on Wednesday mornings.....6:30am in the chapel for time spent in prayer.
Then hear thou from the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.(2Ch 6:35)NEIGHBORHOOD BASKETBALL OUTREACH
Shannon Hills Bible Chapel is pleased to have the opportunity to use the facilities with which the Lord has blessed us to reach out to neighboring communities. A group of men meet at the Activity Building on Thursday evenings to open the gym for boys and girls in the neighborhood to play basketball. The games are organized by age range and supervised to ensure safety and a good time for everyone. The basketball games are followed by refreshments and fellowship and a time of testimony or devotions. We pray that the Lord will continue to use this ministry to reach young people who may not come to the chapel during regularly scheduled services with the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
MORE ACTIVITIES
URBAN MINISTRY OUTREACH
Six times a year, our assembly has the privilege and responsibility of coordinating a Sunday morning breakfast and Gospel meeting for the residents of Weaver House, the homeless shelter operated by the Greensboro Urban Ministry. This provides a unique opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ with individuals whose life circumstances and/or choices have brought them to a position of material need…a situation which often causes them to be more open to their spiritual needs as well. This ministry is one that requires a servant’s heart and hands. Men and women from the assembly meet at 6:15 a.m. in the chapel parking lot on the mornings for which we are responsible, and transport the food supplies to Weaver House where we prepare a hot breakfast of eggs, sausage, grits, biscuits, juice and coffee. The meeting room is set up, and at 7:00 a.m. we open the doors and invite the residents to join us for a service. After a brief period of singing and prayer, one of the brothers preaches a clear gospel sermon, followed by an invitation to trust the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior. After the meeting, breakfast is served “cafeteria-style”, with some working the serving line, some mingling with the residents, and others washing dishes.
SENIOR CHRISTIANS FELLOWSHIP
We have an active group of Senior Christians at the chapel, and they are an important part of the work here. Meeting regularly on Tuesday mornings in the Activity Building, they enjoy a time of Fellowship. The Kids for Christ treat them to a Spring Banquet each year, serving them a delicious meal and ministering to them in song. Each Christmas, the Elders of the assembly and their wives host a Christmas Dinner for the Senior Christians. Following the dinner, there is music and ministry. The Senior Christians are active during chapel work days, in completion of special projects around the chapel, and in our missionary work. The Senior Christians provide godly examples and encouragement for younger generations.
SKYLAND BIBLE CONFERENCE
Skyland Bible Conference is held the week of July 4th each year. After years at Covenant College on Lookout Mountain, Georgia, Skyland moved to Brevard College in Brevard, NC for its 50th year in 2006. Folks from all over the southeast United States gather for six days of effective teaching from God’s Word, hearty singing, great fellowship, three delicious meals a day, and many organized activities for all ages. The conference brings two speakers who share the ministry responsibilities for a morning and an evening meeting, and there are classes for children ages 3-4 and 5-12 during regularly scheduled meetings, as well as a nursery. Young people ages 13 and up have daily activities. There are afternoon Bible Discussions, nightly Prayer Groups. There is plenty of time during the week for organized recreational activities such as volleyball, basketball in the gym, swimming, hiking, softball, golf nearby, the annual white water rafting trip, or sight-seeing opportunities and shopping.
